Meet The Team

Dr Brett Garner

BMedSci (Biomaterials) BDS (Birm.) - GDC 79898

Brett initially studied a Bachelor of Medical Science in Biomaterials at Birmingham University before he became a dentist, qualifying as from Birmingham University in 2001. He then joined the practice in 2002, when it was Steven Reeves and Associates. He formed Serenity Dental in 2008 when Steven retired and has been the principal dentist since.

Brett enjoys most aspects of dentistry, but particularly enjoys creating natural looking teeth in whatever form he is restoring them from. He also enjoys helping patients through the dental experience as easily as possible. It has been important to him when creating Serenity Dental that the experience is as important as the treatments. Dentistry is not what it used to be and he wants people visiting our practice to be able to understand and feel that. He has chosen his team with that in mind, and particularly enjoys when patients come to realise there is more to dentistry than just teeth.

Dr Fiona Knight

BDS (Lond.) - GDC 64989

After graduating from the Royal London Hospital in December 1989, Fiona worked for a short period in the midlands before moving to this practice, where she has been happy being part of a capable and enthusiastic team since July 1991.

Over this time there have been many positive developments in dentistry which both Fiona and the practice have wholeheartedly embraced. An example is the application of the great advances in adhesive dentistry for both the restoration of broken teeth and for cosmetic dentistry.

Fiona's many years of experience enable her to provide not only a comprehensive range of treatments, but also a balanced one, with the insight to help each patient select the best treatment for them.

Dr Thomas Guhl

BDS (Wuerzburg) - GDC 139638

Thomas trained in Wuerzburg, Germany and moved to the UK in 2007. He is a very experienced dentist, particularly in some of the more advanced restorative options. He has a high skill level with a gentle nature and always a smile. He has interests in scuba diving and windsurfing which is what attracted him to the South coast.

All of our dentists all use the latest magnification aids in the form of loupes and an operating microscope, in order to maximise accuracy when carrying out treatment.

One thing we feel is very important is that each patient sees the same dentist on a continuing basis to help create a good relationship. Dentistry is one of life’s important services which some people find to be intimidating or even embarrassing. At Serenity Dental we aim to alleviate your fears and provide painless dentistry for all the family and because quality is of high importance to us all our dentists adhere to the GDC standards for dental professionals.

Hygienists / Dental Therapist

We have a hygienist and a therapist at Serenity Dental, Sue Woodward and Marie Hobbs. Both work very closely with the dentists to prevent and treat gum disease. There is now increasing evidence linking gum disease with heart disease and strokes, It is also the main reason for loss of teeth and because of this we take the treatment of gum disease very seriously.

Your hygienist can

  • Remove calculus (tartar) from teeth by scaling and polishing
  • Remove heavy staining by using gentle abrasion
  • Treat gum disease
  • Carry out fresh breath treatments
  • Teach good oral hygiene techniques to maintain healthy gums

In addition to this your therapist can undertake

  • Fillings for adult and children
  • Extractions of children's teeth
  • Application of fluoride
  • Administration of anaesthetic
  • Taking of Radiographs
  • Dental impressions
  • Reaffixing loose crowns or bridges

Your hygienist or therapist is often the best person to advise you on the most suitable dental products for your individual needs. We stock a full range of oral health products at the practice for your convenience.
