Digital Radiography arrives at Serenity

We have recently replaced our old conventional x-ray developing systems with a state of the art, brand new digital system. This will enhance our images, diagnostics and reduces our patients radiation dose.

There are several benefits to using digital radiography over traditional film X-rays:

Less Radiation-- The equipment used in digital radiography exposes dental patients to much less radiation. In fact, digital X-rays use up to 90 percent less radiation than film X-rays.

Shorter Dental Appointments-- Digital radiography can also shorten your dental appointment! With traditional dental X-rays, you'll have to wait while your dentist develops the film. With digital radiography, the sensor develops the picture almost instantly and projects it onto a computer screen right before your eyes.

Higher Quality Images-- The standard size of traditional X-rays can make viewing difficult, but digital radiography has done away with the "one size fits all" mentality. Once on the screen, digital X-rays can be enlarged or magnified for a better visual of the tooth's structure. Brightness, contrast and colour can also be adjusted, allowing your dentist to see small cavities easier. If you need a hard copy of your X-ray, digital images can also be printed out.

Environmentally Friendly-- Digital dental X-rays are better for the environment! With digital radiography, no chemicals are used to develop film.

We are delighted to be able to offer this improved service over conventional x-rays

Introducing the Inman Aligner

Until now, the alternatives to straighten front teeth involved either long and expensive orthodontic treatments or destructive and expensive restorative treatments such as veneers or crowns. Even ultrathin veneers involve heavy reduction of natural teeth when used to align crowding or protrusion.

But with the arrival of the Inman Aligner, all that has changed.

The Inman Aligner is a cost-effective removable orthodontic appliance that moves teeth in a fraction of the time of other systems. It aligns crowded or protruding anterior teeth with two opposing spring loaded aligner bars. This provides gentle but continuous pressure over a large range of movement. Surprisingly, this gentle pressure is the quickest way to move teeth but it also makes treatment very safe and kind to teeth.

People love the speed of treatment and it’s changing the face of dentistry as we know it. The average treatment time is only 4-16 weeks and now with concerns over the economy it’s a more justifiable expense. Only certified Inman Aligner dentists can provide them. I have achieved this certification and I can provide Inman Aligners, here in Fareham.

I believe the Inman Aligner is the greatest innovation in dentistry of recent years. It’s fast, affordable and kind to teeth. It really is the best way to straighten crowded front teeth without the need to remove valuable tooth tissue.

Warning regarding Poligrip adhesive products

GlaxoSmithKline has recently issued a warning regarding Poligrip ultra and Poligrip total care. It said customers who have used more Poligrip Ultra and Poligrip Total Care than directed over a number of years should stop using the products and get medical advice.

GSK, which already offers zinc-free alternatives, has halted the manufacture and distribution of the products in question. It is now in the process of changing the range so that none of the lines will contain zinc in the future.

In the meantime, GSK insisted Poligrip Ultra and Poligrip Total Care remained safe to use as directed.

GSK's advisory came after its own research and other scientific reports suggested that levels of zinc, which is not absorbed in the mouth but only when swallowed, could rise to harmful levels after prolonged and excessive use of the products.

Symptoms include numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms and legs, difficulties with walking and balance and blood problems such as anaemia.

GSK has issued consumer advice in which it instructs consumers who have been using the product correctly that they may continue to do so safely, but must ensure they are using the products as directed on the packaging. For those whom have been using these products for several years in greater amounts than advised, a typical 40g tube should last about 6 weeks, or those who have concerns about their health, GSK is advising patients to stop using the product, talk to their GP and use a zinc-free alternative adhesive.
